Citizens United
Must Be Repealed

With out question the Citizens United ruling is the worst decision that any Supreme Court has ever made. It grants "personhood" to Corporations. It has also opened the door to billions of dollars of "dark money" political contributions.
Citizens United has virtually destroyed our electoral system and taken corruption to levels never seen before. Now corporations throw money at politicians who are willing to advance regulations that favor corporations, at the expense of the people, the country, and the environment.       Instead of one person one vote it is now one dollar one vote. With corporations and the rich buying elections left and right.
The 2012 elections show the devastation that this improper ruling has done. The Koch brothers spent nearly 1 Billion dollars to BUY dozens of elections. Of course those politicians elected now pander to the ultra-conservative agenda of the Koch brothers (& ALEC). The Koch brothers have vowed to spend another Billion dollars in the 2016 elections. Expecting those politicians to advance their anti democracy pro corporation ideology.
Citizens United came about form a 2010 Supreme Court ruling on the case of Citizens United v Federal Election Commission. In the case the conservative lobbying group Citizens United wanted to air a film critical of Hillary Clinton and to advertise the film during television broadcasts in apparent violation of the 2002 Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act (Aka McCain–Feingold Act).       The United States Supreme Court held that the First Amendment prohibited the government from restricting independent political expenditures by a nonprofit corporation. The principles articulated by the Supreme Court in the case have also been extended to for-profit corporations, labor unions and other associations. The decision did not affect contributions. It is still illegal for companies and labor unions to give money directly to candidates for federal office
This brought about the creation of thousands of PAC’s (political action committees). PAC’s fall under this rule because they are considered non profit organizations, when in reality they are money launderers for corporations, the rich, and politicians. Which has brought about a flood of unregulated money into our elections.
Until Citizens United is repealed by Congress, or the Supreme Court reverses it’s ruling our elections will be for sale to the highest bidder.
